REVISIT THE PROJECT

REVISIT PROJECT 1

By: Alain Resnais
Date: 1959
Period: After the bombing of Hiroshima

www.moma.org

Analyze:
-the focal point of the picture is the place where the man is kissing her hand
-the picture is asymmetrical
-shapes are complex
-relevant to time period because it shows the forbidden love between the French woman and Japanese man after the bombing of Hirsoshima
-harmony between man and woman

Describe:
From the viewpoint of an outsider in close quarters with the couple, Resnais captures the sheer panic in a woman's face and the consoling kiss of her lover.

"Hiroshima, Mon Amour"

Interpret:
I think Resnais is trying to express that a husband should be his wife's comforter, shown through the kiss, and their relationship should be unbreakable through all circumstances.
