"The Alba Madonna"
By: Raphael Marchigan

www.nga.gov

Describe:
From the viewpoint of an outsider, Raphael Marchigan's painting shows a mother and two children, one of which is holding a cross.
-implied lines
-complex shapes
-organic shapes

Interpret:
I think Marchigan is trying to express that we should have a strong relationship with Jesus, where he is the main focus and center of our lives. This is shown through the mother and child looking at Jesus and the cross.

1483-1520
Roman Period

ABOUT ME

Analyze:
-the human figures dominate
-the sky and ground are negative spaces
-the eye focuses in on the baby holding the cross because the other baby and the woman are looking at him
-the blue draping symbolizes Mary
-while the humans are relatively balanced, the cross draws the eye to the left, creating a focal point
