Women in Abolition

Women reformers made significant contributions to social reforms in the 19 century. But conditions for the slaves worsened.

Isabella Baumfree spoke out for abolition.
She took the name Sojourner Truth.
Sojourner was a slave for 30 years.
Sojourner traveled the country preaching and later arguing for abolition.
Sojourner truth showed that hard work was a central fact of life for most women.
