Life under slavery- Urban and Rural slavery
Rural slavery- on large plantations, Men, Women and even children worked in the fields all day long. The whip scared them into working faster, by 1850 most slaves lived on plantations or large farms that employed 10 or more slaves, but many worked on small farms, working with their owner.
Urban slavery- A demand rose for slaves as workers in the mills and on ships. Slaves who had developed specialized skills on plantations were now in demand in southern states. Most slaves lived rurally. Many enslaved women and children worked the same jobs as Men in southern industry.
