The main purpose of the course is to provide a “hands on” introduction to the information technologies used by libraries and archives as a basis for service to their respective clients, in the process focusing significant attention on an array of related subjects, including digital curation, digital preservation, discovery systems, and cloud computing.

Goals of the Course

The course is a starting point, offering the opportunity to learn the use of information technologies in libraries and archives from a number of relevant perspectives. The course does not require programming skills, but it will require an appreciation of programming concepts and principles, as well as the use of command-line computing under the Linux operating system.
