How is diagnosed

The key steps your doctor might take in diagnosing secondary osteoporosis involve assessing your risk for fractures and evaluating your bone density. There are several effective and quick test that measure bone mineral density (BMD):
~DEXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry)- is the most effective way to asses osteoporosis risk.
~ Computerized Tomography (CT) scans- can also be used to check the condition of the bone.
~Heel Ultrasound test- may also be used to test bone density and estimate the risk of fracture for women over 65 years old.
