Since factories were being built to support this costly and massive machine, job opportunities for village farmers became available for those who were in need of jobs. This machine also encouraged technological progress.

Because the spinning mule was very bulky and expensive, it was brought out of the house and into factories. This new invention of the time put a higher demand on materials such as cotton and for water power.
