Built by George Stephenson and his son in 1829, the Rocket was part of the trial. the locomotive used steam pressure to turn the wheels. This allowed the boiler to produce more steam, which gave the locomotive more power and beat the other locomotives. During the trial, the Rocket reached speeds of more than 24 mph. It's design became the standard for locomotives until the 1960s. The Liverpool- Manchester Railway opened officially in 1830. It was immediately successful.
