Religious or Ethnic conflict?

This is mostly a religious conflict. The Chechen people are predominately the belief of Islam. The clashing beliefs of Eastern Orthodox and Islam result in religious intolerance and strife. With the Chechens of the belief of an autonomous religion and the rest of Russia being of a hierarchical structure this caused feelings of tension.
