The Main Issues

The region of Chechnya declared its independence from Russia in 1991 because of disagreements with the Russian Federation's oppressive government and religious persecution. The first Chechen war started in 1994 when Russian forces tried to reclaim Chechnya. Even with more man, weaponry, and air power the Chechens fought back the Russian forces with guerrilla warfare.
