"Mountain Sunset" by C Steele

Describe: Steele's painting shows a sunset over a mountain and a lake. Next to the river, we see a small forest on both sides filled with lush green trees. The work of art is very realistic and has many shapes and colors.

Analyze: The sky is filled with yellows, pinks and purples. The mountains are a soothing gray. The calm river is a light blue but you can see the reflection of the mountains and the sky in it and the trees at its bank are a dark green. It is a very realistic scene and has many organic shapes and details. The trees in the forest lead to the mountains, which is the focal point of the art. It is a calm scene with soft colors.

Interpret: I believe the artist is trying to communicate the beauty in simplicity. Steele is showing us the wilderness through his eyes as a calm, serene area. That is why the artist chose to use such light colors when painting.
