John Calvin was an influential French pastor during the Protestant Reformation. He had many teachings and was a great religious, political leader. One of his main teachings was predestination. This was the idea that God knew who was going to be saved even before they were born, nothing someone did in their live could change that. Calvin also taught that it was important to live a good life and obey God's laws. Calvin's followers were called Calvinists and they helped John pass laws, they believed that people were generally sinful and banned many forms of entertainment, such as playing cards and dancing. Calvinists thought those activities and many others distracted people from their religion.
