Anatomy: the study of the structure of body parts and their relationship between one another.
Subdivisions
- gross/macroscopic: study of large body structures visible to the naked eye.
- regional: all the structures in a particular region of the body such as the abdomen that are studied at the same time
- systemic: studying the body a system at a time. Ex. Cardiovascular system and all body parts within it.
- surface: study of internal structures and how they relate to the overlying skin,
- microscopic: structures to small to be seen with the naked eye
- cytology: considers the cells of the body
- histology: the study of tissues
- developmental: traces structural changes in the body that occur in the life span
- embryology: developmental changes before birth
Physiology: the function of the body or how all the body parts work and perform their life-sustaining activities.
Subdivisions
- renal physiology: kidney function and urine production
- neurophysiology: workings of nervous system
- cardiovascular physiology: operation of heart and blood vessels
Define anatomy and physiology and describe their subdivisions pg 2-3
