Freedmen's Bureau

End of Reconstruction

The Ku Klux Klan

During 1865-72 the people of the South began to transition from an era of slavery and destruction to better life of hope and freedom. The Bureau was empty land that blacks may stay and build homes. The bureau also encountered family's earning money for a future in the South. The man who supervised the Bureau was under the name, O.O. Howard. He was a memorable man to the blacks. He made a difference in the civil war, and also was empathetic to them.

In 1866 a very vulgar group came along. It started with six veterans and grew to a bigger evil community. In the South not very many people were comfortable with African Americans living free, the group did violent, meaningless, harmful things to the blacks. They would torture and murder the Africans out of surprise. The Klan began to spread, and the violence was no longer tolerable. The group then was no longer allowed and disappeared. Although they are not for sure, the disgusting people might still be around. This nasty crew was known as, the K.K.K. (Ku Klux Klan).

Civil War Right's

An act was later on passed by congress, ran by Republicans that stated to treat all men equal. All people in U.S.A. would get the same satisfaction, advantages, privileges. No need for separate water fountains, theaters, or any public areas. The law also read that any personal belongings that were damaged may be sued for all men.

After the Civil War was over, reconstructing and union of the Southern states became a priority. Mr. President, Abraham Lincoln, was working hard to make it possible for the blacks. This meant that the african Americans were protected and would be equal to everyman. Yet some men still attempted to restore slavery.
