Tulsa Riot

Gaines Vs. Canada

Great Depression

Scottboro Case

In 1921 there had been a small area known as, "Black Wall Street." A riot a had began when, the growing K.K.K., reported that an black man had assaulted a white woman.

As the Great Depression grew in 1929, more problems had risen. Most people were in debt or had no job. As people would struggle to redeem a job the whites would strike and rant about, if a white man had no job, a black man shall not either. They would also say cruel things, like, N*&&#%$ back to cotton fields. City jobs are for white men.

This case was an unreasonable case. It began as white and black teens were in the same train. Conflict began and a fight had broke out. As the white men had been thrown off. As the African American men stepped out to their stop, they were taken to jail for assault. The men were supposedly women dressed as men and the blacks were charged with rape.

Charles Hamilton Houston was one of the very few black men to graduate from Harvard Law School, as he finished, he joined the NAACP. He had very many complaints, he knew what others would think if he ddid a certain action. So he was very careful. He wanted to help the black community without disruption. He found a way to sue a state to give colored students the same education as whites.
