Life under slavery- Rural and Urban
On large plantations, men, women and children worked from dusk to dawn in the fields. They were whipped by the overseer or slave driver which compelled them to work faster. A city slave or urban slave was almost considered to be a free man because he spent most of his time beyond the watchful eye of his owner, he is much better fed and clothed, and they enjoy privileges which were unknown to rural slaves.
