Major Leaders in Asylum/Prison reform and accomplishments.
Dr. John Galton and Dorothy Dix were two of the major reform leaders for asylums and prisons. Dorothy Dix sent a report of her findings about the jails' horrific living conditions to the Massachusetts legislature and because of this, a law was passed that aimed toward improving prison living conditions. John Galt had many revolutionary ideas about treating the insane, based on his conviction that they had dignity. Among his many approaches were the use of drugs and the introduction of talk therapy.
