Major Education Reform Leaders/ Accomplishments

Horace Mann of Massachusetts was a major public school reform leader. He became the first secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education. In 12 years of service, Mann established teacher-training programs and instituted curriculum reforms. He also doubled the money that the state spent on schools. Other states followed Massachusetts's good example which was set by Horace Mann
