Still Life with Fruit and Ham

Artist: Jan Davidszoon de Heem

Title: Still Life with Fruit and Ham

Date: 1648-1649

Medium: Still life painting

Provenance: Museum Boijmans Von Beuningen, Netherlands

Source:http://flavorwire.com/330516/the-greatest-food-still-lifes-in-art-history

Description: many different meats and fruits. Several pieces of seafood. All on different leveled plates. Potentially for a feast.

Analysis: form is used for the illusion that the food is on different levels of the plates.the food is balanced and proportioned.

Interpretation: this food is elaborate and in large portions.  Based on the time the artwork was created, I thought it may be for a feast or celebration.

Judgement: this still life is extremely well drawn. It looks very realistic. Highlighting was well done. Light source is easily recognizable.
