The Grimké sisters openly criticized the lack of woman's education through a series of letters entitled "Equality of the Sexes and the Condition of Women"
This began the reforms.
Overcame the resistance, and founded Mount Holyoke Female Seminay, a place for the education of women.
Opened a school for girls, and eventually decided to admit an African American student. Crandall broke down the sex and race barrier and attempted to teach all women. However, due to riots and protesting, she was forced into closing her school and fleeing.
