Coutries were devided by two faiths, each Prince chose the religion for his territory.Keeping peace was sometimes hard. As people left Europe for the Americas, the new land took the shape of Europe. French Protestants, Huguenots fought with the Catholics in years of bloody wars. Well, fighting then continued, the St. bartholomew's Day Massacre, in one night 3,000 Protestants were killed.
In 1598 fighting ended with the Edict of Nantes sighend by the king Henry IV. Protestants could remain in France butnot Paris. Violence was worse in the Roman Empire, Protestants threw two Catholics out a window an Prague. This was in response to a King's order to close all Protestant churches, the revolt began the Thirty Years War.The roman emperor could not control, he needed help and called on other Catholics. The Protestants called for help from others as well, the French King helped them. After 30 years people were tired of the fighting. An agreement, the Treaty of Weastphalia, leaders could chose faith of their land.No more Holy Roman Empire. People began to question the role of giv. and science in their lives( US History). Before, congregationns made the rules without the input of others. The peeopplee also wanted to control government. Local goverments began to share power with federal goverments, FEDERALISM. People could now question goverment, people did not out, themselves!
