Mourning Process
The family normally will stay in mourning until the NÅkotsu, in most traditions. A picture of the deceased will be places near or at the family altar in the family's home. A festival is held one year after the death, this is called Obon. The festival consists of the family getting together, and prayers and sutras are said. Memorial services are also held on the first, third, fifth, seventh and thirteenth year after the death.
