Caldarium

The caldarium was the hot room in a Roman public bath. It was used to open the pores of the skin so that dirt could be more easily accessed, and then removed. This room was also heated by a hypocaust. In the caldarium, there was a hot plunge bath and sometimes even a laconicum - which was an extremely dry area used to make people start sweating quicker.
