Matter

Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space.

An example of a chemical change between two common objects is rust forming on the metal of a bike. Another example is the explosion of fireworks is an example of chemical change. During a chemical change, substances are changed into different substances. So for fireworks, the composition of the substance changes.

The law of conservation of mass states that matter can be neither created nor destroyed. In other words, the mass of an object or collection of objects never changes, no matter how the parts are rearranged.

Salt will dissolve in water, ice will float, and nails will sink.
