Traditional dress in Madagascar is the 'lamba'. The word lamba means cloth or clothing it is two matching pieces of fabric that women wear, one around the waist or chest and one around the head or shoulders. In other parts of Madagascar women are seen wearing light dresses of all colours and men are seen wearing casual shorts and tanks.
In Madagascar women wear"braids of love” to show interest in marriage. At marriage, a woman will ask her sister-in-law to braid her hair to symbolize the strengthening of the marital bond between the families. Women typically braid their hair in two braids and the them in a low bun behind their head.men keep their hair short because of the heat from working they are usually seen wearing hats to shield the sun. Women wear scarves for the same reason.
