Up until the 1820's, women had just about no options for school and education once they got out of middle school and public schools. The first school opened for girls was in Troy, New York. Then, schools for girls began to open up in MA and CT and eventually around the country. Black women were not wanted at these schools and wouldn't get the right until after civil war.
