Mary C Vanghan was a major leader in the temperance movement. She was a woman against the consumption of alcoholic beverages and engaged in temperance meetings and speeches. Lyman Beecher was a Connecticut minister who was apart of the church and believed consumption of alcohol should be in no way legal. He also founded the Temperance Society and led temperance lectures and movements.
