Dorothea Dix was the major leader of the prison/asylum reform. She was a lady that lived in Massachusetts and agreed to teach Sunday school at a prison. When she saw how terribly the people there were treated she made it her mission to gather first-hand information about hospitals and prisons and when she made it to court they were so shocked by her preparations that the prisons and asylums were quickly shaped up.
