Why are the letter such a big part of ‘The Notebook’?

Analysis

It was a way for the reader to get inside Noah’s head and heart to find out how he really felt about Allie. It was also a big part of what kept them away for many years since Allie’s mother kept them away from her.

How much of the novel is true?

Nicholas Sparks never gave away nor does he plan to tell how much of the story is true. He does admit the main idea came from his in-laws who he admires.
