The man reading the story then tells the women with Alzheimer’s that this story is the story of their lives and she is Allie making him Noah. He resumes reading the story and describing their life together: her career as a noted painter, their children, growing old together, and finally her diagnosis of Alzheimer's. She finally remembers and her love for him fills her heart. They share a romantic dinner together until Allie went back into her old habits and forgot whom he was. Later on that night Noah snuck into her room later that night and to his surprise Allie recognized him. She and tells him that she loves him and asks, “do you think our love will take us together?” Noah says “our love can do anything” and lies down with her on her bed, they fall asleep holding hands. In the morning they are still on the bed holding hands, the nurse goes in and sees them with their eyes closed and touches their held hands and realizes they are both dead.
