Where and when the battle took place

The battle of Saratoga was actually 2 battles that took place on September 19th, 1777 at Freeman's Farm and on October 7th, 1777. The battle took place during three weeks and became the turning point of the war, the revolutionary war. Some of the main battles before this were the battles of Trenton and the battle of Long Island.

In August, 1776, the battle of Long Island took place, about a year before the battle of Saratoga. The British defeated the Americans there and hope was lost. But the Americans didn't give up. On Christmas night, 1776, Washington and his army crossed the Delaware river 3 times to make a sneak attack on drunk, German hessians. That was a success. The hessians were badly defeated and hope was regained for Americans. Eventually, this led to Saratoga.

But why did this war happen in the first place. That dates back to the French and Indian War. After winning, the British were in a huge debt. They placed taxes for the colonists to pay for the war but colonists didn't like it. They protested an eventually came to this war.

Now the 2 sides were here near the Saratoga county. This was what eventually became the turning point, which also convinced the French to join America.
