Operation Fortitude

• This came after d-day

• Fortitude South was a ruse designed to deceive the Germans into thinking the Allies would make landfall in France at the Pas de Calais instead of Normandy.

• In order to help sell the con, the Allies created a made up invasion force known as the “First U.S. Army Group”

• Operatives used inflatable tanks, wooden airplanes and dummy fuel depots to trick reconnaissance pilots.

• When the allies went to go attack Pas de Calais, the Germans were waiting at Normandy for an invasion that never came.
