King George III became king during the middle of the French and Indian War. Once it was over, he believed that the colonies had to help pay for the conflict. Most of the taxes were decided by the Parliament, with only a little input from the King. Once the colonists started to rebelled, he tried to get them under control because he believed the other lands he reigned over would become rebellious also. After the war was won, he still tired to gain control over them for another two years.
