Structure:

In the ancient world slavery was very common. They were either captured as prisoners of war, similar to the way slaves were acquired in Africa during the 16th to 19th centuries. However, slavery in the ancient world was usually hereditary. A slaves children would also be slaves. During the time of the Atlantic Slave Trade, African villages sent out raiding parties to other villages to capture slaves to exchange for Europe’s goods. In addition, the treatment of slaves were different during the different time periods. In the ancient world slaves were treated fairly well if only to keep them working efficiently. However slaves involved in the triangular slave trade were kept under far worse conditions. Thousands of slaves were forced to travel to the America’s through the Middle Passage however few of them actually survived the journey due to the harsh conditions. Once they arrived in the America’s many of the families were separated as they were bought by different owners who then forced them to work under terrible conditions.
