Within the history of Latin America, there had been many occurrences involving the Native American empires, as well as European conquerors.  Dominating southern Mexico, Mayans accomplished many things, including establishing cities, and inventing and creating many things. For example, the Mayans established many cities, over 40 cities of ruins uncovered by archaeologists, the greatest city being the city of Tikal. Their major achievements were more on the scientific side, having remarkable insight on astronomy, engineering, agriculture and communications. Using astronomical observation, they were able to predict solar eclipses and create accurate calanders. Mayans had a written language called glyphs, a picture writing which contained over 800 symbols.
