In my analysis of The Broke Spears, the Aztecs' perspective of the Conquest of Mexico would seemingly be defeated, both emotionally and physically, as well as welled with grief. "The Tlatelocas- the Jaguar Knights, the Eagle Knights, the great warriors- were defeated, and this was the end of the battle." In their best efforts to defend their land, they were sadly defeated. Their grief and sadness is stated in the prompt, "The Epic Description of the Besieged City", in Stanza 1 and 4.
"And all these misfortunes befell us. We saw
them and wondered at them; we suffered this
unhappy fate."
"We have pounded our hands in despair
against the adobe walls,
for our inheritance, our city, is lost and dead.
The shields of our warriors were its defense,
but they could not save it."
