The History of Latin America
Aztecs
The Aztecs were a civilization grown in Central Mexico, the capital in which was called Tenochtitlan, on an island in large lake which is now known as a site of Mexico City. Aztecs also had a written language, using glyphs and pictographs, which is a drawing that represents an idea. Aztecs adapted the idea of the solar calanders, an idea from the Mayans, in usage for farming and keeping track of the seasons. Chinampas, or as they call it floating 'islands', were also another great achievement, in which they were used for farming. These Chinampas were basically large rafts covered in mud from the lake bottom. Aztecs also made chocolate, which was first known as xocoatl, or "bitter water", before they also adapted this from the Mayans and used it to make a spicy hot chocolate drink, made from cacao beans, corn flour, water and chillies.
