The Intruder

Gabriel Metsu, 1660, oil on canvas

Lord Northbrook's London house

Nga.gov

Analysis: The painter drew all of the people's expressions shocked. He also drew lighter colors on the middle of the painting and darker on the outer sides. The woman in white is in the center.

Interpretation: He depicted them shocked/scared to show as if the really is an intruder. He also painted lighter colors in the middle to show as if there is a light in the  room over the people.

Judgment: I fell the artist depicted an intruder very well and they didn't even draw a real intruder. Their expressions are very clear in showing their fear or being shocked.
