NOT ALL FOSTER FAMILIES ARE BAD
I had the pleasure of interviewing Jeanette DeLeone, a mother who has fostered six children over the course of seven years, who says she became a foster mother because she loves working with kids. I asked her to explain the bond she shares between her and a child she fosters and she explained to me: "the bond is one that lets them know i am here to help them and and give them all of me as long as you let me." Next, when asked to name some of the most important things she has learned during her experience as a foster parent, she replies "i have learned to be very patient and learned to listen and understand the situation the children have been through so i can help them." I also asked her whether or not she thinks its important for a child to end up in a foster home rather than a group home or a shelter to which she replied: "i think its a much better environment for a child to grow up in a group home because it feels more like your home and whether it is temporary or permanent, you still feel a little bit of being at home and not in a facility where it is not the same." The last question i asked jeanette was if she believed growing up in a foster home changed a child's character. She said yes, thAt she believed it did because it shows there are still people in the world who care for them no matter what. They should know its ok to be mad or sad sometimes, just don't stay shut and try to be real.
