People in the north believed that equality should be significant and relevant in all Americans' lives. With that, the Union's objective was to abolish slavery, even if that meant continuing a war their own country.

The major players in the political scene in the north included Fredrick Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, Angelina and Sarah Grimke, William Garrison and Sojourner Truth.

People in the north published autobiographies to display the ideas of the injustices that comes with the legalism of slavery.

The fate of a runaway slave that reached the north would probably be very fortunate. Because the north wanted to abolish slavery, when a runaway slave were to reach the north, I assume people would support and try to help them.
