The North and the South made money, by selling slaves, farming, and trading. The South was where selling slaves was popular. Trade was more common in the South, because they could trade Slaves for other good, besides the African American's. People in the South, since they had different amounts of slaves, and if you had a slave you were considered wealthy. So the South was middle class, because there was a variety of amounts of slaves, that people owned.
