Edwin Powell Hubble was born in Marshfield, Missouri on November 29th, 1889. He later moved to Chicago with his parents John Powell and Virginia James Hubble, and his seven siblings, where he attended high school.

Hubble was a very talented athlete, and excelled in the high jump, basketball and boxing. He was interested in doing well in school, and loved the sciences and the idea of other worlds. One of his favorite books as a child was "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne.
