The story behind the atom...

It wasn't until around 460 B.C that the idea of the 'atom' was created. Democritus, a Greek philosopher, posed the question: If you break a piece of matter in half, and then break it in half again, how many breaks will you have to make before you can break it no further?

Democritus decided that this breaking of matter must end at some point, and so he named this smallest part of matter the 'atom.'
