Pain

This painting by Jaques-Louis David represents the human emotion pain. The main focus is on the man in the painting who is obviously suffering. There is more emphasis on him than anything else in the painting. The negative space in the background puts even more emphasis on the man in the foreground. There is contrast between the light foreground and the dark background. Organic lines from the figure of the man, but there are also some geometric forms in the bed he is laying on and his side table. This painting is showing that the man has been murdered and is leaving a note to someone he might never see again.
