This famous photograph depicts the human emotion of love. It has clean lines and the focus is on the man and woman kissing in the center of Times Square. The contrast between the man's dark uniform and the woman's light uniform provide interest to the eye and make it the focal point of the photograph. After looking at the kissing people, your eyes wander to the reactions of bystanders. The arch of the nurse's back leads your eye in a curved motion. If the photograph was split into two parts, you would find that is it pretty symmetrical. Without the people in the middle kissing, the photo would be dull, but this couple gives it visual interest. I believe this photo is communicating love and joy that the war is over.
