North
What Happened?
PUBLICATION OF UNCLE TOM'S CABIN - 1851
Harriet Beecher Stowe published Uncle Tom's Cabin explaining the horrible things that happened during slavery. The book sold 300,000 copies in the first year! And 2 million copies within a decade! (which was unheard of at this time)
The north liked this book because it exposed slavery for what it really was.

South
The South hated this book because of what it said about slavery. They tried to convince people that it was all lies.
