Page 62: CTQ #3- Mrs. Roberts, in a diabetic coma, has just been admitted to Noble Hospital. Her blood pH indicates that she is in severe acidosis, and measures are quickly instituted to bring her blood pH back within normal limits. Define pH and note the normal pH of blood. Why is severe acidosis problematic?
a). pH is the measure of potential hydrogen in the body. Normal range is 7.35- 7.45. Acidosis= pH < 7.35.
b). Severe acidosis may be problematic because it causes the central nervous system is depressed so the person goes into a coma and death soon follows.
