Clothing during the 1860's were much different compared to what we wear today. A typical fashion for women was the Corset. Corsets were worn underneath women's clothing. A couple other popular clothing items back then were the hoop skirt and the mourning dress. Civil War soldiers on the other hand wore a wool uniform that included a cartridge box, cap box, bayonet and scabbard. Men during this time wore. Men usually wore pants with suspenders to hold them up, along with a vest which was usually made from wool. The shirts they wore contained stiff paper and collars.
