During the Civil War soldiers set camp which was where the men who weren't fighting in the front lines would wait and rest. The food and water that were provided in these camps were in most cases contaminated which lead to soldiers getting sick and dying. Not only the food and water but the camp itself was unstable with very poor shelter. The soldiers were usually very uncomfortable and would rest on the ground. The camps provided little if not no leisure to the soldiers. They would also have to move to different areas due to little food or if the enemy was getting to close to their camps. Soldiers would also write letters home so they could escape the horrors of the war.
