First Team and Game

The first team in baseball was the New York Knickerbockers. That team was formed by Alexander Joy Cartwright. The first professional team in baseball was the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings. Ten men were on salary from March 18 to November. The first game they played was against the Knickerbockers. The Knickerbockers won 21-1. The game was played on an old style field. The fences were made up of people standing around. The pitchers would throw underhand. Nobody would wear gloves. Today, there are two baseball leagues. These leagues are the National and American. As of the 2013 season, each consists of 15 teams. An average season has 162 games. Each team of 25 players plays in a stadium in cities like Toronto and Boston.
